Keeping Our Team Ready: This Month's Emergency Safety Meeting

Every month, our whole team sets aside time for an emergency safety meeting. Trucks stay parked, trailers stay put, and for that hour, the focus shifts entirely to one question: if something went wrong right now, would we know exactly what to do?

It's easy to treat safety training as a box to check. We don't. Our team works around heavy equipment, loaded trailers, and busy yards every day, and the people who make that look routine are the same people we're responsible for keeping safe. A monthly meeting is our way of making sure that responsibility doesn't slip, no matter how normal a regular day starts to feel.

These meetings cover the real scenarios that matter in a yard like ours: what to do in severe weather, how to respond if someone's hurt on site, where the evacuation routes are, and who's responsible for what when an emergency actually happens instead of just being talked about. We walk through it as a team, ask questions, and make sure everyone, not just supervisors, knows the plan cold.

There's a business reason for this too, even if it's not the main one. A team that knows how to handle an emergency is a team that keeps showing up for the people who depend on us: each other, and the customers who count on their trailers getting where they need to go, on time, every time. Preparedness isn't separate from the service we provide. It's part of it.
